The Frides Way

At St Frideswide we believe that Geography helps to provoke and provide answers to questions about the natural and human aspects of the world.  Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world, it's interconnectedness and their place in it.  The geography curriculum at St Frideswide enables children to develop knowledge and skills that are transferable to other curriculum areas and which are used to promote their moral, social and cultural development.

Our topic based curriculum is designed to ensure that teaching equips children with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural & human environments.  We seek to inspire children to be curious and fascinated about the world and its people.  Geographical knowledge and skills are sequenced to provide a growing knowledge about the world so that they leave St Frideswide with:

  • Knowledge of where places are and what they are like.
  • Understanding of the ways in which places are interdependent and interconnected and how much human and physical environments are interrelated.
  • An base of geographical knowledge and vocabulary.
  • Fluency in geographical enquiry and the ability to apply questioning skills and use effective analytical and presentational techniques.
  • The ability to reach clear conclusions and develop a reasoned argument to explain findings.
  • Experience of fieldwork and other geographical skills and techniques.
  • A sense of curiosity to find out about the world and the people who live there.
  • The ability to express well-balanced opinions, rooted in knowledge and understanding about current and contemporary issues in society and the environment.
